The difference

Fettuccine vs Linguine

Fettuccine is a flat egg ribbon with a broad face for clinging to butter and cream. Linguine is narrower and lens shaped in section, an oval rather than a flat band, which is why it suits the oil and seafood sauces a wide ribbon would wear too heavily.
